Mrs. Allen was born on Nov. 30, 1929, in Lynn, Mass., the daughter of David and Mildred (Getchell) Geer.
She married Raymond Winslow Allen in 1951, in Peabody, Mass. Ray predeceased her in 1991.
Barbara loved gardening, painting, traveling, and walking on the beach. She was part of the Brooks clan, taking an active part in the yearly reunions on her front lawn on West Strand in the home where her parents had lived before her. Her love for people was evidenced not only by her family, but by customers as she owned and operated a Sambos Restaurant for many years, taught painting classes, and was an active member of the RAFA and VFW
Auxiliaries. She was raised in Peabody, Mass., lived in Cheyenne, Wyo., Sacramento, Calif., San Jose, Calif., Fremont, Neb., Marathon, Fla., and finally back home to Waterford.
Barbara's passion for her art led her to paint in various mediums including oil and watercolor. She loved to paint and to teach painting to others. Another trait that dominated her life was her relationships with other people. She loved to see others succeed and enjoyed opening her home for those who didn't have a place to find a meal. Barbara completed accounting training and worked as accountant for many years. She was a licensed pilot, nutritionist, graduated John Powers modeling school, worked for various shelters in different states, and created wall murals and display wedding dresses for JoAnne Fabrics.
