Charles Edmund "Mack" McCutcheon

Groton - Charles Edmund "Mack" McCutcheon, 89, of Windam Falls in Groton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at Pendleton Rehabilitation Center in Mystic, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in 1924 in West Virginia. He left "coal country" in the early 1940s to work at Electric Boat in Groton. Shortly thereafter, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II for three years. He returned to the area where he met and married his wife, Gloria. He worked at Robert Geer for many years and then was employed by the Underwater Sound Lab from which he retired.

He enjoyed 25 happy retirement years with family and friends in Florida and Myrtle Beach. He had a green thumb and a passion for orchids. He enjoyed golfing, he loved his little dogs, and he especially liked to dine out frequently.

He survived by his wife, Gloria, to whom he was married for 67 years; his daughter, Lynda Ormsby and her husband, Brad, of North Stonington; his son, Bruce McCutcheon and his wife, Regina, of Waterford; granddaughters, Dawn Chaude and her husband, Gene, Stacey Lathop, Megan McCutcheon, and Kalyn McCutcheon; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jerry McCutcheon.

Charles was predeceased by his parents, Charles McCutcheon and Garret (Wilson) McCutcheon and his sister, June McCutcheon.

Services are private.
