Daniel W. Long

New London - Daniel W. Long, 77, of New London, entered eternal life on April 5, 2014.

He was born Oct. 6, 1936, in New London, the son of the late Jesse and Helene (White) Long. He attended local schools and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was united in marriage to the former Gail Greenleaf on June 4, 1960, in St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church; Mrs. Long survives him.

Mr. Long was employed at Pfizer Inc. for 36 years in animal research, retiring in 1996.

He was a communicant of St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Seaside Council #17.

Besides his wife of 53 years, he is survived by four children, Rev. Daniel Long of Chicago, Patricia Long (David) of Uncasville, Michael Long (Penny) of Waterford, and Kathleen Long of New London; five siblings, Robert and Edward Long, both of Florida, his twin-brother, William Long (Claire) of East Lyme, Mary Nenna (Robert) of New London; sisters-in-law, Nancy Long of New London and Ethel Long of Niantic; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by three siblings, Jesse Long Jr., Richard Long, and Patricia Turner.

His family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. Family and friends are asked to gather for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 10 Huntington St., New London. Interment will be at 10 a.m. on Friday in St. Mary Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends are invited.
