Irving George Lubchansky

New London - Irving George Lubchansky, 88, passed away on Feb. 2, 2013.

He was born in New London, on Oct. 7, 1924, the sixth child of David and Bessie Lubchansky.

After graduating from the former Bulkeley School in 1943, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served as a radioman on an LST in the South Pacific. After his naval service, he attended University of Connecticut and then played semi-pro baseball before joining Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.

He retired from Metropolitan Life after 38 years of service in 1983, and then worked part-time at Grader Jewelers of Waterford until 2011. He was a very active member of Congregation Ahavath Chesed Synagogue of New London where he served on the board of directors.

He married Marilyn Levine of New London, on Aug. 17, 1947, and they had three children. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, as well as his son, David and wife, Meryl Lubchansky, of Richboro, Pa., son, Steven and his wife, Pamela Lubchansky, of Waterford, and his daughter, Sheryl and her husband, Benjamin Peterson, of Waterford. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A private service was held on Feb. 3, 2013.
