New London - James Wheeler Armstrong Jr., of New London, died on March 7, 2007 at the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Aug. 3, 1918, in Richmond, R.I., the son of James and Beatrice Shaw Armstrong.
He was the widower of Vivian Hightower Armstrong. They where married in New London in 1939. She died on Nov. 5, 2004.
Mr. Armstrong was retired from Electric Boat, The Day and Groton Schools where he was a bus driver.
He is survived by his sons James W. Armstrong III of North Windham, Richard B. Armstrong of North Stonington and Frederick "Butch" Armstrong of New London; his daughter, Kathleen B. Gale of Elkridge, Md.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Betty Hamel, Mildred Burgess, Alma Stevens and Doris Stubelik.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London. A Service of Remembrance will be held on at a time that will be announced in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 8 Lancashire Drive, Waterford. Burial will be private.
