Jane Gerity Obituary

New London - Jane (Kudrle) Gerity, 93, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 in Cromwell, after several years of failing health at the Covenant Village Community.

Born Jane Louise, May 5, 1919, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Arthur R. and Ethel (Reuschling) Kudrle, she attended Sioux City schools, was an honor student and member of the National Honor Society. Jane married Paul J. Gerity in 1941, and they traveled as Paul was completing college, medical school and service in the Army Air Force: South Dakota, Michigan, Montana and South Carolina. Their sons Michael and Mark were born and the family settled in New London, where she assisted Paul in establishing his medical practice.

After her children were raised, Jane separated from her husband. She continued her education, graduated from Briar Cliff College and earned a master's degree in library science from the University of Illinois. She enjoyed world travel, visiting several continents and pursued interests in literature and education, working and volunteering in libraries. She particularly enjoyed time spent at the historic library in Stonington on Wadawanuck Square. Jane was divorced in 1975.

Jane is survived by sons, Michael J. and wife, Carolyn, their children, Janice, Michael, Joan and Ann, and great-grandchildren, and Mark B. and his wife, Diane, and their children, Duncan and Maureen; her brother, Richard's children, Marlene, Janice and Craig and their children also survive her; as does Mary G. Bernier, her sister-in-law, friend and travel companion.

Jane is predeceased by her former husband Paul; and brothers, Richard and Leland who died as a child in 1918.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Dec. 15, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Killingworth with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Westbrook.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jane's name at the non-profit Covenant Village of Cromwell, 52 Missionary Road, Cromwell, CT 06416.
