John Evans Goodwin

East Lyme - John Evans Goodwin, 84, of Niantic, beloved husband of Jacquelyn (Stuebben) Goodwin, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, after a long illness.

He was born Aug. 12, 1929, in Amityville, Long Island, N.Y., to the Reverend Bayard Goodwin, rector of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, and Marie (Lemon) Goodwin. John is survived also by his step-daughter, Si Baker-Goodwin; one sister, Joanne Baffo of Wilton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was a carpenter/cabinetmaker for individuals and businesses in the area over the past 35 years and specialized in meticulous restoration of old homes. He was especially proud of his work on the Boathouse at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and of his paratrooper training during his enlistment in the U.S. Army.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at St. Sophia Hellenic Orthodox Church, in the chapel, at 200 Hempstead St., New London.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to St. Sophia.
