Marianna E. Leckey

New London - Marianna E. Leckey, 89, of New London entered eternal life on Dec. 2, 2012, in the comfort of her loving family.

She was born June 9, 1923, in New London, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Salamanca) Perrone. She attended local schools and graduated from the former Williams Memorial Institute, class of 1941. Later she graduated from the former Joseph Lawrence School of Nursing.

Marianna worked as a nurse for the former Dr. Hugh Lena's hospital on Broad Street in New London and later at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1965.

She was united in marriage to Charles J. Leckey Jr., on Oct. 8, 1943, in St. Joseph Church; Mr. Leckey Jr. died on March 10, 2000.

Marianna was a communicant of St. Joseph Parish and was a member of the St. Jude Society.

She is survived by three children, Mary Leckey of South Windsor, Anthony "Tony" Leckey of New London, and Joseph Leckey of Florida; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Catherine Leckey in 1971, and a sister, Jenny Edwards.

Her family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. The funeral will assemble at 10 a.m on Thursday and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
