Thomas Amlong

Old Lyme - Thomas Amlong of Old Lyme died unexpectedly on Jan. 26, 2009, at St. Raphael Hospital in New Haven.

He was born on June 15, 1935, in Ft. Knox, Ky., the third son of Colonel Ransom George and Marguerite (Kennedy) Amlong.

Following in his father's footsteps. Mr. Amlong served for over 20 years in the U.S. Army where he retired as an officer. Prior to his 1968 Vietnam deployment, he served and honored his country as a Gold Medal winner in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. He was a lifetime member of both the National Rowing Association and Vesper Rowing Club.

He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Bornand Amlong; his daughters, Karen Lee and her husband, Leighton Lee IV, of Westbrook, Nathalie Amlong and her fiancé, Sean Garvey, of Gales Ferry, and Tanya Flynn and her husband, Erin, of Guilford; his brothers, Michael Amlong of Leominster, Maine, Jerome Amlong of Baltimore, Joseph Amlong of Vero Beach, Fla., and William Amlong of Louisa, Va.; his beloved grandchildren, Alexandra and Quinn Lee, Thomas Tristan Ournac, and Trinity and Shayla Flynn.

Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, Old Lyme, is handling arrangements which are private.
