East Longmeadow, Mass. - Dr. William N. Hill Jr., 86, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at Baystate Medical Center.
Bill was born in New London to the late Elizabeth W. (Graves) and William N. Hill Sr. He was a graduate of Bulkeley School in New London, Class of 1944, graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Class of 1948 and Cornell University Medical College, Class of 1952. Bill served his country with the U.S. Army
from 1945-1946 and studied history, geography of Japan and how to read, write and speak Japanese.
After graduating Medical School, Bill the entered the U.S. Navy
and served from 1953-1955 as a medical officer attaining the rank of lieutenant and receiving the Navy Occupation Medal (Europe). Dr. Hill was in private practice OBGYN in Longmeadow and Enfield for 33 years retiring in 1992. During that time, he ushered over 2,000 babies into the world. Dr. Hill had many affiliations in his career being a member of the Hampden District Medical Society, the Mass Medical Society, American Medical Association and the American College of OBGYN. He was also a member of the First Congregational Church in East Longmeadow, serving on the board of deacons and was a church moderator.
Bill met his beloved wife Bonnie J. (Campbell) Hill while they were both in the Navy and were happily married until her passing in 2005.
He is survived by his loving children, William N. Hill III and his wife, Brenda, of Bernardston, Mass. and their son, Edward of Arlington, Va.; Stephen C. Hill and his wife, Judy, and their children, Gabrielle and William of Belchertown, Mass.; Charles A. Hill of Springfield, Mass. and his children, Valerie of Fairfax, Va. and Ariana of Springfield, Mass.; and Heather E. Perez and her husband, Alan, and their children, Joseph and Emma of Highland Lakes, N.J.; and his brothers, Charles Hill of New York, N.Y., Laurence Hill of Kansas and David Hill of Attleboro, Mass.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, in the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., East Longmeadow, MA. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, in the First Congregational Church, 7 Somers Road, East Longmeadow (on the rotary).
