Katherine Remley Obituary

Ledyard - Katherine Ida (Cobb) Remley, 95,of Gales Ferry, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, to go into the waiting arms of the Lord.

Kay was born on Sept. 24, 1917, in Bladensburg, Md., the only daughter of the late Josias and Louise (Allen) Cobb. She was also predeceased by her only brother, Mason Howard Cobb.

Mrs. Remley worked for the federal government after high school and met her future husband, David Walter Remley, while he was on a national savings bond promotional tour as a World War II submarine service hero. Kay became a Navy wife in 1947 and they traveled extensively for the rest of his military career. He retired from the Submarine Base in 1958 and together they built their home in Gales Ferry. They remained happily married there until David passed away in 2000.

Kay was a 60 year member of the Faith Trumbull Chapter of the DAR and was also an auxiliary member of the World War II Submarine Veterans Association, but her principle joy was her membership, participation, and long association with the St. James Episcopal Church in Preston.

Left to cherish her memory are a cousin, Annette Hastings of Stevensville, Md; a nephew, Mason Cobb of Henniker, N.H.; and a nephew, Benjamin Cobb of Glen Burnie, Md. Also locally, long time friends and recent care givers, Sonya Spencer, Joseph Harrington, and James Sherrard.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at St. James Episcopal Church in Preston. Private burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., where she will be interred with her husband David.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the St James Episcopal Church, General Fund, Rtes 2 & 117, Preston, CT 06365.
