Alfred Giansanti Obituary

Montville - Alfred Giansanti, 90, of Uncasville, passed away Sept. 8, 2013, at The William W. Backus Hospital.

He was born Jan. 3, 1923, the son of the late Alfonso and Rose (Papagna) Giansanti.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and during World War II, serving on the USS Hunter Liggette in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1956.

He married Yolanda (Romano) on June 21, 1952, in Hartford. She survives him.

He had been employed as the water commissioner for the Town for East Lyme.

Alfred was a life member of the Montville VFW. He loved to cook as well as loved arts and crafts. He was a championship duck pin bowler and was a middleweight boxer while serving in the Coast Guard. He loved baseball and was the past president of the Eastern Connecticut Board of Umpires.

In addition to his wife, Yolanda, he is survived by his sons, Alfonso Giansanti and wife, Diane, of Salem, Michael Giansanti of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughters, Patricia Beetham and husband, Russ, of Oakdale, Alana Cancelmo and husband, Benjamin Jr., of East Lyme; sister, Julie Costanzo of Enfield; grandchildren, Alfonso II, Marcus, Melissa, Sonya, Julia, Alex, Celina, Benny, Nick, Vinny, Nicole, Anthony, Mattie, and Nina; and by four great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John's Church in Montville. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Montville.
