Anthony Susi Obituary

Waterford - Anthony ""Tony"" Susi Jr., 73, of Waterford, entered eternal life on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, in the company of his loving family.

He was born Sept. 3, 1939, in New London, the son of the late Anthony and Frances (Kryzwicki) Susi Sr. Tony graduated from New London High School, class of 1957. He attended The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. and later graduated from the University of Hartford with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, the former Lucy Lasala on June 24, 1961, in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. Mrs. Susi survives him.

Tony was employed at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) for 33 years. He held the position of program manager for Submarine Antenna Systems in the Submarine Electromagnetic Systems Department. His many accomplishments contributed directly to the capabilities and readiness of the submarine fleet. As a result of these accomplishments, he was awarded several U.S. patents, received a number of NUWC special achievement awards and was the recipient of a Department of the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service award. He was referred to affectionately by many of his co-workers as Mr. Submarine Antennas.
He was a lifetime member of the New London Lodge of Elks, the former Oxford Hose Company of New London, and a longtime duckpin bowler in numerous leagues throughout the area. He was a communicant and usher at St. Paul Church in Waterford. He also spent many years coaching baseball and basketball in Waterford.

Over the last eight years, Lucy and Tony have spent their winters in Marco Island, Fla. They also enjoyed traveling throughout the Caribbean, visiting Atlantic City and Foxwoods Casino.
He loved to attend all his grandchildren's dance and musical performances and sporting events.

Besides his beloved wife of 52 years, he is survived by three sons, Anthony and Alice Susi III of Gales Ferry, John and Mary Ann Susi of Southington and Michael Susi of Waterford. A brother-in-law, Frank Lasala of Uncasville; and a sister-in-law, Clara Susi; and nephew, Frank Susi Jr. of East Lyme; and five grandchildren, Alyssa, Lauren, Brett, Zachary and Garrett Susi.

He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Susi.

His family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. The funeral will assemble at 11 a.m. Saturday and proceed to Mass of Christian Burial at noon in St. Paul Church 170 Rope Ferry Road. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery.

Donations may be in his memory to the donor's choice of charity.

As I mentioned to you Lucy, people go a lifetime without being as fortunate as you to have had such a wonderful marriage. You were blessed with a supportive husband and father, a friend, and most of all, your soul mate. Anthony, Johnny and Michael, you had and still have the perfect role model, You will forever follow in his footsteps. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Your family is amazing. Your Mom and Dad did a great job! He will be on my mind always. I love all of you. oxox

Tony, You will always be remembered as the handsome guy who married my cousin Lucy. I was young and had quite a crush on you! Though over the years we didn't see each other much I always thought of you and Lucy lovingly and with happy memories. Rest in the Lord's arms and watch over us until we meet again.
You will be missed.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
