Barbara DiMaggio Obituary

North Stonington - Barbara A. (Kelly) DiMaggio, 78, of North Stonington, passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2014.

Born in New London, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Frances (McGuire) Kelly and lived in North Stonington for the past 12 years, previously residing in Pawcatuck for most of her life.

Barbara was employed with Electric Boat for 30 years. Following her retirement from EB, she worked part-time for several years with the Dr. David J. Siciliano Chiropractic office in Westerly. She enjoyed her job very much, interacting with the patients and working for Dr. Siciliano.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also had lots of laughs and good times when she was with her sister, Pat.

Barbara is survived by her four children, James Ilvento of Groton, Donna Bonelli and her husband, Joseph, of Ledyard, Rick Ilvento of North Stonington, and Julie Ilvento of Stonington; siblings, Patricia Dupont of Waterford, Frances Paoloni of Wakefield, R.I., Leo Kelly Jr. of New London, and Nancy Henkle of Florida; six beloved grandchildren, Jade Bonelli, Meagan Castagna, Kyla, Bryn, Noelle, and Nolan Hickey; three great-grandchildren, Nathan and Alex Castagna and Jahtee Whyte; and her childhood best friend, Joan Boiselle of Waterford.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Lynn Ilvento.

The family would like to thank the staff at Groton Regency for the care and comfort given to Barbara during her short time there as a resident, especially Laura, Drew, Sue, Patti, Daniela, Dan, Miriam, and Gail, along with others who contributed as well. The level of care Barbara received from these incredible people was above and beyond, with so much compassion and patience.

Her family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, 51 Williams Ave., Mystic, followed by a service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private for the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, (www.stjude.org).

Jim, Donna, Rick and Julie I would like to tell you how sorry my family and I are at Barbs passing, she worked for me for many years, she was a truly wonderful, faith filled person with a heart of gold. She loved you and all her family and was so proud of all of you. I have known her for most of my life, Barb was more than a secretary to me she was one of my family. I will definitely miss her smile, kindness, the happiness she always gave to me and the patients she came into contact with, her laughter and sense of humor.
