Brian Lathrop Obituary

Groton - Brian Anthony Lathrop of Noank, and formerly of Lebanon, passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, in the company of his family.

He was born July 27, 1941, in Willimantic, son of the late Thurley (Cummings) Lathrop and Merrill Lathrop of Lebanon. Brian was a graduate of Lyman Memorial High School in 1959.

Brian enjoyed a varied and successful career in the wire industry spanning more than 35 years, during which he held plant management and project management responsibilities in a fast changing and developing industry; first with Brand Rex Co. in Willimantic, including a two year project in Scotland, UK, and later with Montrose Products, Astro Cable and Madison Cable in Massachusetts, prompting a relocation to Sturbridge, Mass. Brian retired from Madison Cable in 1998. Upon retiring, he relocated to Noank.

He was a longtime member of Shennecossett Yacht Club in Groton, and enjoyed sailing, boating, and travel with a great group of friends for many years and was loved by many.

Brian is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Joan Lathrop; his son, Brett A. Lathrop and daughter, Catherine Lathrop, both of Massachusetts; and grandchildren, Ryan, Isabelle, and Iris, with whom he had a special bond.

His family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Route 195, Willimantic. A remembrance graveside service and Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday in New Lebanon Cemetery, Waterman Road, Lebanon.

Memorial donations are suggested to SYC Sailing School and may be mailed to Shennecossett Yatch Club, PO Box 967, Groton, CT 06340.

Joan and family,
Barb and I have been away on BYC cruise for a few days. We are both so sorry we missed the service. Brian was a favorite of ours. He was a great guy with great life experiences. He will be missed.

Joan,
So sorry for your loss. Brian's absence is felt by the entire neighborhood. Sure am going to miss the one-liners. Remember, you still have 'family' on the street...
