Bruce Brennan Obituary

New London - Bruce E. Brennan, 65, of 107 Raymond St. Ext., New London, passed away on Friday morning, Oct. 25, 2013, at home in the loving comfort of his family, after battling several bouts of cancer over many years.

Bruce was born on Feb. 26, 1948, in Bath, Maine, the son of Earl W. and Eleanor (Brown) Brennan. He was married to Diane Higgins on Nov. 5, 1975 in New London. Bruce was the love of her life.

Bruce worked for many years as an STO test technician at Electric Boat Company. After Electric Boat, he worked in property management.

He was an avid outdoorsman, lobsterman, fisherman and boater. He especially loved fishing on the Thames River, mackerel fishing off the docks of Port Clyde, Maine and trout fishing in freshwater lakes and streams of New England. He loved watching sports, especially the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and New England Patriots and shooting games of horse in the driveway with his sons and grandsons.

Bruce was a member for many years of the Stedfast Baptist Church in Groton where he was a faithful and beloved member. His love of his church family and God were obvious in Bruce's life by the many thoughtful and giving gifts he gave. He loved visiting the elderly in convalescent homes and the ill in hospitals. Bruce gave so much of himself and time to others and asked nothing in return. He read his bible daily and lived it in all aspects of his life. He was also a volunteer for Hospice of SE CT, for many years unbeknownst to all but his wife, as he did not brag or boast. Bruce was a humble man whose humility was awe inspiring.

Bruce was a loving husband and a wonderful father. His grandchildren were the lights of his life.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Joe, Scott and wife, Traci, Christopher and wife, Lindsey, all of Waterford, David and wife, Holly, of New London; and his daughters, Tammy Avery and husband, Gregory, of Mystic and Dana Weinstein-Seekins and husband, Matthew, of Groton; his brothers, Robert of Waterford, Michael and his wife, Carol, of Winthrop, Maine and Gary of Bristol, R.I.; and his sister, Patricia King and husband, Rick, of Meriden. He is survived by his grandchildren, Aaron, Trent, Kacie, Tate, Kayla, Trey, David Jr., Caleb, Aiden and one on the way; and his special friends, Pat, Elliot, Dick and Mike. He is also survived by his former son-in-law, Jeffrey Weinstein of Stafford, Va.

Visiting hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday with a funeral service at 7 p.m., at the Stedfast Baptist Church, 1041 Poquonnock Road, Groton. Interment will be private.

Donations in his memory may be directed to the Stedfast Baptist Church, Center for Hospice Care of Southeastern Connecticut, 225 Dunham St., Norwich, CT 06360 or Doctors Without Borders.

Life dealt you a tough hand but you and Diane played it perfectly. The miles between kept us from getting together often. We always enjoyed our time spent with you and the family in Connecticut or here in Maine. Our condolences and love to all.

Dad I could never put into words what an amazing husband and father you were. I admire so many things you've done while you were with us. Your faith in god encouraged my walk with god and for that I am a better man and father today. Thank you for being such an inspiration to all of us. Because of you I am a better man. You were more of a dad to me than anyone could ever be. I will miss you dearly but as my faith continues to grow stronger I will celebrate your life and all that you gave without ever asking anything in return. You were the best pepa to Kayla and we both love you so much. You are home with the lord now but will always be with us in spirit. Thank you for just being YOU!!!! Love you dad, Jeff

My thoughts and prays are with you all at this time. I can remember playing basketball with Bruce down at Washington Park when i was a kid. He was always a good guy and one hell of a basketball player. Its good to see that one of the guys from Groton turned into a great community leader.
