Charles Alfieri Obituary

Groton - Charles C. Alfieri, 91, of Simsbury, formerly of Groton, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, Aug. 11, 2013, at his residence.

He was born in Groton, on July 19, 1922, the son of James and Catherine Sylvester Alfieri.

Charles was married to Rosalie Giordano on May 2, 1953, in Groton. Rosalie passed away Oct. 2, 2003.

Charles was a 1940 graduate of Robert E. Fitch Sr. High School, where he was class president. He also graduated from Brown University and earned his Ph.D. from Purdue University. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Charles was employed for many years as a rocket scientist for Thiokol Industries, retiring in 1978.

Charles is survived by his sons, James Alfieri and his wife, Patricia, of Simsbury and Charles Alfieri of Vancouver, Wash.; his grandchildren, Robin and Samuel Alfieri; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Anna Alfieri and Marilyn Toher.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11a.m. on Friday at Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart Drive, Groton. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery. A visiting hour will be from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Friday at Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St.
