Charon Jennings Obituary
She was the daughter of Mildred (Blackburn) Jennings and Bennie A. Jennings. Charon was a graduate of New London High School, attended the former Mohegan Community College, and completed the Threshold Counseling Training program at the Niantic Correctional Institute.
She was previously a member of the former Montauk Avenue Baptist Church and the Shiloh Baptist Church, both in New London, where she was involved in music ministries. Charon was an accomplished musician and loved to sing and play piano.
Charon retired from the Connecticut Department of Corrections after many years of dedicated service. She touched the lives of many through her testimony of faith and trust in God.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by the following, two daughters, DeVonne Gooden-Thorpe (Kenneth Blake Thorpe) and grandson, Blake Jr. of New Haven and Jazmin Jennings of Waterbury; two sisters, Brenda Jennings of Norristown, Pa., and Marion Jennings of Norwich; goddaughter, Yaritza DelValle of Waterbury; foster sister, Jacqueline Isaac of Groton; and a host of special aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1 Garvin St., New London.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Lester Gee Funeral Home, New London.

I tell myself, time will soften the edges and ease my burden ... But my question is "how much time". Charon, your in my thoughts everyday. I miss our talks when I needed advice and prayer. We have never lost touch,We never had any negative words between us, we were always there for each other. My heart is empty, filling it with happy memories help. Rest my dear sistah friend rest.

My heart is saddened by the news of Charon's departure. I was instantly transported to our youthful days in New London, thinking back to the beautiful, talented and gracefulness that was Charon Jennings. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Jennings family as you mourn your beloved daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. May the prayers of peace and love help you celebrate Charon's light and life.

It was a beautiful memorial celebration with a huge turn out . Pastor Watts let us know that he was happy to see so many people of different ethnic backgrounds in the same room who loved you and your family. The flowers kept coming and there were so many cards that they could not read them all. They chose about eight to read and one was from me. I was truly touched.Friends and family were received in the fellowship hall. The people at my table each told of happy memories about knowing and loving you. Charon, It's not the years in your life, It's the life in your years and by the number of friends and family that showed up today you touched many hearts and lived a blessed life. My sister friend, I had no idea that when we chatted on the phone a few weeks ago that would be our last conversation. Thank you for the twenty plus years I called you "friend". With each phone call we often chatted for hours sharing thoughts,laughter and tears. It's hard to understand why people are taken from us, but I find comfort in knowing you were a special part of my life. When you came to visit me last year and helped me pick out my new living set I did not want you to leave but I guess you did have to pick up your daughter Jaz from school (lol) We laughed about that and I invited you to come back the next month to spend a day at the Norwich spa and you said you would. I could go on with many stories but I'll hold on to our memories and let them guide me during this time of sadness. My dear Charon, It's not goodbye, It's see you later!
