Dennis Foley Obituary
Dennis was born in New London, on Oct. 1, 1928, the son of James J. Foley and Mary I. (O'Connell) Foley. He was the fifth of nine children. Four brothers and four sisters predeceased him.
He graduated from The Bulkeley School in 1948, and joined the U.S. Marines later that year. He served from 1948 to 1952, first on the USS Salem, and later with the First Marine Division in Korea, where he was a squad leader with the rank of staff sergeant.
After the service, he joined Ironworker's Local Union # 15 where he was a structural ironworker and welder. He was elected business agent and financial secretary/treasurer for his local and served in those offices through the 1980s.
He married Patricia Cooleen on Nov. 19, 1955 in the Bronx, N.Y. They were married happily until her death in Oct. 2003.
He is survived by a son, Michael Foley of East Lyme.
There are no calling hours, and interment will be private.
Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Foley particularly enjoyed living in Niantic and time spent in his boat on the Niantic River. In lieu of flowers or other gestures, friends are encouraged to make a small donation to any conservation or outdoor fund or charity.

Michael, your Dad will be greatly missed by his extended family at the Niantic Dockominiums. He loved stopping by daily to check in on the activities. His wit and sense of humor brought a smile to everyone. He enjoyed his boats and clamming up the river. He will be remembered by all his fellow boating friends. We wish him godspeed as he continues on his heavenly journey.
