Dorothy "Dolly" Abrams

Groton - Dorothy "Dolly" Abrams, 91, died peacefully on April 13, 2013, at Fairview Odd Fellows Home in Groton.

Born on June 5, 1921, in Plymouth, Mass., she was the daughter of Ida (Vodkin) Resnick and Max Resnick. As her parents died when she was young, she was raised by her paternal aunt and uncle, Annie and Harry Labovitch, who she always regarded as her second set of parents.

Following graduation from Plymouth High School, Dolly moved to Boston and completed business school. She subsequently worked as a bookkeeper at DiMare Brothers and Signal Chemical Co.

Dolly married Joseph Abrams after World War II, and they made their home in Canton, Mass. When Joseph became a partner in a meat market, Dolly supported his business by being his bookkeeper. Dolly was an avid Red Sox fan and loved to do the Sunday crossword puzzle. She was an active member in her synagogue for many years, where she served as president and board member of the Sisterhood.

She was the devoted mother of Michele Abrams, deceased in 1975, and Iris Abrams Freeman of Waterford. Dolly loved her son-in-law, Gary, and doted on her grandchildren, Jared and Meika. Dolly's extended family meant a great deal to her, and she enjoyed spending time with her nieces, nephews, and their children.

She was also predeceased by sisters, Jean and Marion; brother, Ben; and husband, Joseph.

Her stay at Fairview was brief, but her family appreciates the care and concern provided by the attentive staff.

A funeral was held graveside on April 14, 2013, at Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon, Mass. The family will receive guests at the home of Iris and Gary Freeman on Monday, April 15, 2013 and Tuesday, April 16, 2013.

The Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London, assisted the family with the arrangements.
