Waterford - Dorothy Grace (Black) Way of One Beechwood Drive, Waterford, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014.
She was born in Elmira, N.Y., on Aug. 3, 1923, the daughter of Grace (Hanney) and Lee Black. She lived most of her life in Waterford raising her family.
She was a graduate of Chapman Technical High School and was employed by the Waterford Food Service for 23 years before retirement. Dorothy resided at Atria Senior Living in Waterford for the past seven years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alton
Dorothy is survived by a son, Robert A. Way and his wife, Ronnie, of Waterford; and a daughter, Janet W. Johnson and her husband, Ronald, of New London. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Aimee McNally and her husband, Michael, of Canton, Janelle Dubicki and her husband, Steve, of Quaker Hill, Anne Johnson Palmer and her husband, Justin, of San Francisco, Calif., and Jeffrey Johnson and his fiancée, Andrea, of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and by her great-grandchildren, Skylar McNally, Fiona McNally, Benjamin Dubicki, and Mason Dubicki.
Dorothy was a woman of grace (aptly named by her parents at birth). She had a great sense of humor and always treated those around her with love and sensitivity. She will be missed by all members of her family who will always be grateful for her constant love, inspiration, and support.
Dorothy's family would like to thank all of those at Atria Senior Living for their care, compassion, love, and support over these past seven years. In particular, we would like to thank those in Life Guidance whose care enabled Dorothy and her family to get through her final days with dignity.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London. Interment will be in Jordan Cemetery. There will be a calling hour from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

I am saddened by the passing of Dottie. As you all know, she was a favorite of mine. Her gentle ways and quick smile won my heart immediately. Dottie is going to be missed by staff and residents alike. Whenever we have a sing-a-long, I will be thinking of her and how much she loved to sing. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of you. May God bless.
