Edward Sweeney Obituary
He was born in Newton, Mass., July 16, 1929, the son of Edward H. and Charlotte (Pickering) Sweeney. He was a 20 year veteran retired from the U.S. Navy, he served in Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for Vitro and General Dynamics.
He was an avid gardener and golfer who shot four hole in ones.
Mr. Sweeney was the husband of Caroline (Santora) Sweeney who survives him. He is also survived by a son, Edward Sweeney of New London; two daughters, Judith Sweeney of New London, and Joanne Toth of North Stonington; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
His family would like to thank the staff at Bayview for their care and compassion during Ed's illness.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, in the Connecticut State Veteran Cemetery in Middletown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bayview Healthcare Recreation Fund.
