Ethel Lathrop Obituary

Mystic - Ethel (Barrie) Lathrop passed away peacefully at Avalon Health Center, Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.

"Chibbie" was born on Sept 27, 1925, daughter of Frances and Eleanor Barrie of Norwich. She was united in marriage in 1951 to Richard Lathrop of Stone Ridge in Mystic, who survives her.

She leaves behind her son, Alan Lathrop of Lake Winnipesaukee, N.H.; her daughter, Susan Burns and her husband, Rob, of Mystic; her grandson, Daniel Lathrop and his wife, Aly, and daughter, Cara of Westminster, Mass.; her granddaughter, Heather Greenman and husband, Jeff, of Newport Coast, Calif.; and her grandson, Thomas Burns and wife, Sara, of Boston, Mass.

She was predeceased by her brother, Francis of Norwich.

Chibbie spent most of her working career in the medical field working many years at The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, but her real passion was in the arts world. Her many interests in this field culminated in she and her husband opening the "TLC Custom Framing" shop in Taftville which they operated for 10 years.

The family wants to give a very special thanks to all those at Avalon Healthcare Center of Mystic and the women of Beacon Hospice of Southeast Connecticut whose care and compassion was outstanding.

Her family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at the Ledyard Congregational Church, 722 Colonel Ledyard Highway, Ledyard. Private burial will take place at a later date at Maplewood Cemetery in Norwich.

Dear Lathrop family,
I have such wonderful memories of coming to TLC with my framing projects. Always loved talking to Ethel about skiing, family etc.
Both of you were so nice to Joe and Sylvia at Stoneridge too!
With our sadness and sympathy to all you,
Kim and Kenn Fischburg, Norwich

To the Lathrop family, My sincere sympathy to all. My visits to "TLC" were always filled with laughter, not to mention the beautiful work done there. Heaven is in for a treat!

Sorry to hear of Chibbie's passing. I spent much time in the TLC Framing shop and have many of the framed pieces on my walls. She and Dick did a beautiful job on all my items. Chibbie was a good friend of my mothers when they were younger. I had wonderful times talking with her in the shop.
Much sympathy to the family for your loss.
