Evangelia McIlrath Obituary
Angie was born on July 15, 1947, in New London, the daughter of the late Leo John and Thoula (Demas) Mantzaris.
She was married on May 2, 1970, in New London, to Jimmy L. McIlrath Sr.; who passed away on Sept. 1, 2011.
For many years, she had been employed by the Groton Board of Education as an aide on the Special Education buses.
One of her greatest joys was traveling to see her grandchildren. Angie had also volunteered many hours for the Fleet Reserve Association in Groton.
Angie is survived by her daughter, Christine Lewis and her husband, John, of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, Jimmy L. McIlrath Jr. and his wife, Vivian, of Tampa, Fla.; her sister, Ethel Mantzaris and life partner, Penny, of Storrs; two brothers and their wives, Harry and Linda Mantzaris of Groton, Nicholas and Deirdre Mantzaris of Old Mystic; and two grandchildren, Alexander and Calliope.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St.

Angie's family you are in my thoughts and prayers. Angie and I were friends for many years as kids growing up together in Groton. Jimmy and I worked together at EB for years. She would call me at work to let know how things were going with Jimmy. She was a very caring and loving person and I will cherish those years.
