Herbert J. Napper

Stonington - Herbert J. Napper, 78, of Stonington, husband of the late Phyllis (Shively) Napper, passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at Apple Rehab in Mystic.

Born in Kingston, R.I., he was the son of the late Herbert and Annie (Fagan) Napper and lived in Stonington for 45 years.

He was a machinist with Electric Boat, retiring in 1992, after 37 years of service.

Herb enjoyed working in his yard, fishing, and woodworking, making beautiful birdhouses. His favorite pastime was playing cards with his friends at the VFW in Mystic.

He is survived by his six children, Abbie Miner and her husband, Jerry, of Pawcatuck, Cheryl Comeau and her husband, Andre, of North Stonington, Michael Garrett and his wife, Cheryl, of Sacramento, Calif., John Fain and his wife, Beth, of Bedford, Texas, Carla Elias and her husband, Dennis, of Houston, Texas, Julie Leonard and her husband, John, of Mystic, and Scott Fain and his wife, Pam, of Ledyard; two sisters, Barbara Trowbridge and her husband, George, and Beverly Napper, all of Mystic; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a niece, Joan Main of Mystic.

His family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, followed by a service at 11 a.m. at Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Route 27, Mystic.
