Ida A. Leone

Mystic - Ida A. (Critelli) Leone, 100, wife of the late George E. Leone, passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at Mystic Healthcare & Rehab Center, surrounded by her family.

Ida was born Sept. 7, 1912, in Jersey City, N.J., the daughter of the late Casparo and Mary (Conca) Critelli. She moved to Norwich in 1956, and resided in Mystic for many of her recent years.

She is survived by her daughter, Lois Peckham and her husband, William, of Gales Ferry; brother, Nicholas Critelli of North Bergen, N.J.; three grandchildren, Michael Peckham and his wife, Wendi, of Ledyard, Christopher Peckham of New York, N.Y., and Daniel Peckham of Union City, N.J.; two great-grandchildren, Emily and Hayley Peckham; several nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Alice Onorato, Adeline Salvato, Aurora Pecoraro, and Elizabeth Caruso; a sister-in-law, Tecla Critelli; and brothers-in-law, Gus Onorato, John Salvato, Salvatore Pecoraro, and Nicholas Caruso.

She retired in 1976 from employment at Connecticut College where she utilized her office management, secretarial, and bookkeeping skills. Previous employment included positions of loan officer at Connecticut Bank and Trust in Norwich and secretary at Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., in Jersey City, N.J.

Ida was a longtime communicant of St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church in Groton and member of the Ladies Guild. Her hobbies and talents were sewing, quilting, beading, and various types of needlework. For many years, she enjoyed being a member of the St. Mary's quilting group which produced beautiful quilts to be raffled each year. She also improved her needlework techniques by taking classes at the Connecticut Cooperative Extension System. Cooking was another of her pursuits.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, 51 Williams Ave., Mystic. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Point Road, Groton. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery, Route 27, Mystic.
