Jack Friedman Obituary
Jack was born on March 19, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of Louis and Sarah (Shapiro) Friedman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, having served in Japan, New Guinea, and the Philippines in World War II.
He married his beloved wife, Anita (Cantor) Friedman in 1946. They enjoyed travel, camping, and winters in Florida, but most of all gatherings with family and friends.
Jack was owner and president of Affiliated Financial Services, which was an accounting and financial services firm. He continued to work until 2012, retiring at age 89. He was active in the community over the years, involved with the Elks, Odd Fellows, and Waterford Rotary Club. He was an accomplished actor involved in numerous productions with the "Footlighters", a local acting group.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Sharyn and her husband, Rick Caudle, of Rocky Hill; his son, Ronald and wife, Gaye Friedman, of San Diego, Calif.; his daughter, Laura Friedman Carpenter of Old Lyme; and his son, Louis and wife, Paula Riley-Friedman, of Southington. In addition to his brother-in-law, Louis Cantor of Portland, Oregon, he is also survived by his grandchildren, Steven and Jeremy York, Samara Wilburn and Alexis Friedman, Julia Carpenter Rand, Sarah and Melissa Carpenter, Brian and David Friedman; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, in Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London, CT 06320. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday in the funeral home prior to the service. Interment will follow in Beth El Cemetery, Groton.

I've known Jack and Anita almost forty years now. They always welcomed me into their home even when I was that young nutcase child of the seventies! Jacks humor and insights and Anita's unwavering warmth will always be remembered. I loved them both.

Sharyn,Ronnie,Laura,Louis: It's hard to believe that Uncle Jack and Aunt Anita are both gone. They were such powerful personalities and mainstays of the family. I know you are all experiencing difficult times, but be comforted in remembering what a positive influence they were on our lives.

I am saddened to here of Jack's passing. As a kid growing up with Louis, I had several heart to heart talks with Jack. He was frank, direct and funny. He was a fine man.

We will miss Uncle Jackie but we will cherish the wonderful memories we have of him and Aunt Anita. As my dad used to sing when he was a kid and Uncle Jackie and Anita used to remind us whenever we saw each other, Take a wind!

Sharyn and family, I am so sorry for the loss of your father. He made such an impression on me while we (Sharyn and I) were best friends in school. I am sure he viewed me as an "oddity" being a Catholic that his daughter brought into his home, and I viewed him in awe and respect for his great faith. I never forgot his strength and family leadership, and while I lost touch with Sharyn over the years, I remember her and her family well. Rest in peace Mr. Friedman.

Uncle Jack and Aunt Anita were the sweetest, kindest, most loving, and most generous people I ever met. It was a privilege to be with them and I was so honored when they would welcome me into their home. I am so sad that they are gone, but so happy that they are together again - with each other and with my parents. I know wherever they are, Uncle Jackie and my Dad are causing some trouble.
