Six years is not a long time, it is a lifetime when you can talk to a friend like James. I hear his voice from time to time when I'm sailing and it warms my heart and stirs my memories we shared as shipmates. Miss you still.

My deepest condolences to the family of James Pattison-- James, the cook.
I will always remember my experience as an Educator/Deckhand onboard La Amistad during spring 2002 as being ever richer because of James' great cooking.
I hope his soul rests in peace.

To the family of James Patterson: my deepest condolences to the entire family and friends. I never knew he had done so much wonderful things in life - from a great kid to a military guy, to being a ship lover, to being a best coach in sports, to care for deaf children at a deaf school years ago, to being a wonderful husband and siblings he loves so dearly.
May my prayers give you peace and good memories.
RIP, James

My deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of James Patterson. James remembered me as "hotdog annie" and a part of my more zestful youth goes with him. He would often saunter from his home back then in downtown over to my hotdog cart in the brick ally for 2 dogs with just a little kraut and mustard. Always calm and cool with that big smile. He was full of spirit that overflowed generously to everyone he met. His memory will be eternal and forever a part of downtown Mystic. My pleasure to have met him. Ann Buonocore-Mystic, CT.

My husband, Larry and I would like to extend our sympathies to Mr. Patterson's wife and families. He was Larry's house father at Mystic Oral School for the Deaf. He had a several great and funny memories as well as I had, too. The very first time we both laid our eyes on him in the cafeteria when he came in wearing his green Marines uniform with supt, principal and Dean of Students. We (the whole kids) stared at him wondering what was he doing. He was wearing a huge Marine hat. We learned that he was going to be a housefather for boys dorm. He made a huge impact to all students he came across. He coached Pee-Wee basketball. I was impressed how great coach he was. He shall be never forgotten for years to come. He'll be missed by everyone who liked him immensely. Michelle and Lawrence Passeck

I clearly remember James as a very tall most friendly man with that cute little chub baby-face while working at Trader Jacks , a restaurant that is no longer there in the down town Mystic area . After ending my shift we would all get together for drinks and fun and I always remember you tagging along with all of us... As I look back at my days working in down town I can truly say I have met so many amazing people , you being one of them for sure. Rest in peace James Henry .... you have truly lived a wonderful life and I'm so happy to have crossed paths with you .... To your family please let me know when they plan to have something for him in down town mystic ... I would love to be there for all of you . Shanin Masucci

sorry to hear James passed away.
He was a great lovely person and of course a U.S Marine - also has black belt karate. Dr Owsley hired him as dormitory supervisor at MOS to handle us as a man like an army. He will be missed. I like him so much he was so respectful.

James was a fixture in Mystic throughout the 70's and 80's. A larger than life figure with an infectious laugh, a huge heart, and a kind word and good deed for everyone. A fine example of a truly good person. Smooth sailing Pat...

I was very sorry to hear Mr. Patterson passed away. I was a student at MOS (1969-1977) and I remember him coaching me in Pee Wee Basketball. He was a very nice person. I didn't know he had done so many things in his life. I am proud to know him and send my sympathy to his family.

Kathleen, Christy, David, Simon & Isabella, I wish I'd had the opportunity to meet James. But I am told by extremely reliable sources that he was kind, generous, nurturing, a super grampa to Simon & Isabella, and a steadfast & loving spouse to Kathleen. (St. James, indeed!) I can't even imagine the grief you all must be feeling. This I know for sure: he will be honored & cherished every time you feel a breeze in your sails & share a special meal together with the people you love. Be well my friends. You are in my heart.
