Joseph Joyce Obituary

Mystic - Joseph V. Joyce, 90, of Mystic, husband of the late Hazel (Graves) Joyce, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 23, 2013.

Born in Danvers, Mass., he was the son of the late Joseph V. Joyce Sr. and Elizabeth (Anketell) Joyce.

Joe was a member of Local 90 IBEW for over 50 years, until his retirement in 1985.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS Montpelier and was honorably discharged as seaman first class in 1945.

Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus Mystic Council 1943, the VFW Post 3263 Mystic, and a founding member of the Quiambaug Fire Department.

He leaves behind his five children, Patricia Joyce-Peteler and her husband, Charles, Joseph D. Joyce and his wife, Elizabeth, Michael Joyce, Mary Joyce-Stammel and her husband, Robert, and Paul Joyce and his wife, Susan; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and Margaret Austin who was considered his "other daughter".

He was predeceased by a brother and sister.

His family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic, followed by a service at 3 p.m. Full military honors will follow immediately after the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private.

Dear Mary Beth and family,
I am sorry for the loss of your Dad. He was such a fine man, I am going to miss him sitting in his chair on the front lawn, but now he is with you wonderful mother sitting with her and listening to her poems. They were a wonderful couple.
I am sure you and your family have so many nice memories. You are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless.
