Joseph Keogh Obituary

New London - Joseph James Keogh, 61, of New London, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013, at his home after a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

He was born on Sept. 22, 1951, in New London, the son of the late Thomas J. and Lucy G. Keogh.

Joseph had a kind and generous heart and a love of jazz and house music. Nothing made him happier than sitting outside in the sunshine listening to music and being with his friends.

His survivors include a brother, Thomas of Titusville, Fla.; and two sisters, Mary Kelly of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Ann Sailors of Groton.

He was predeceased by his brother, Daniel.

All services are private.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be directed to the Center for Hospice Care Southeast Connecticut, 227 Dunham St., Norwich, CT 06360 and/or the ALS Association, Connecticut Chapter, 4 Oxford Road, Unit D4, Milford, CT 06460.

I was just thinking about Joseph last night. Reminiscing about going dancing together, and his lovely collection of Kangol caps. I still have the one he gave me.
I also think of him often when my friends talk about mix tapes. He was a master of mixing.
He let me bring a couple of photographers into his flat on granite st to use the Bathroom for part of the shoot. It had a stunning 1930's style bathtub and surround
Perfect for shooting lounge clothing. We had so much fun.
He was such a dear person, so brave, and spiritually strong.
I'm grateful to have had the few years of friendship with him.

I am sorry for your loss, Joe was a good friend in high school, will always remember him entertaining us with his band back in 1967, he contacted me on Classmates.com a few years ago, it was a pleasure to hear from him, he will be missed.

The obituary describes Joe as having a kind and gentle heart and this is how I remember him.
We had so many good times together during our Junior and senior years @ SBHS. May he rest in peace.

Joey and I spent many days together when we were neighbors. He'd spin records for me and talk about his experiences. We'd laugh a lot and meditate. ....I'd sing for him. When I moved to Bank st. We would talk on the phone and see each other when he was well enough to walk. He was always walking. He asked me to have my band learn "What ever Lola Wants..Lola gets!" I have it on my list...I regret that I can't sing it to him and see his eyes light up. Instead...I will sing it to the heavens. Rest in Peace my dear one. XO Lolo

Dear Keogh family
I was so sorry to read about joe. I went to SBHS and was in the class of 1970. Joe was a good friend and such a nice guy. I remember going to the family home and your mom was in the kitchen frying meatballs and joking with me because i was italian alsoI. Joe is free from his earthly suffering and is safe in heaven with his mom and dad and Danny. God bless you and know that he is in my prayers .
