June Barrack Obituary

Groton - June Marion Barrack, 87, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2013, in New London.

She was born March 14, 1926, in Bronx, N.Y., the daughter of the late Hilda and Percy McCarthy. She received her bachelor's degree from Brown University and her master's degree in social work from Boston University. She was an adjunct professor at Rutgers University's School of Social Work and last worked at Raritan Bay Mental Health Center in Perth Amboy, N.J. and also maintained a private practice. She was a member of the National Association of University Women, National Association of Social Workers, and Literacy Volunteers of America.

She was an early proponent for licensing of social workers. Interests included philanthropy, ballroom dancing, walking, gym, reading, swimming, bible study and while an avid fan of jazz and blues, preferred contemporary music of various genres as oppose to "golden oldies". In her younger years, she participated in choir and played the violin.

She is survived by her daughter, Delia Barrack of Brooklyn, N.Y.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. June 15, 2013, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 1830 Route 12, Gales Ferry. Interment will be in the memorial garden.

Donations may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church.
