Katherine C. Hansen

Groton - Katherine C. Hansen, 58, of Groton, died at her home on Wednesday, April 17, 2013.

She was born on April 15, 1955, in San Diego, Calif., the daughter of Agnes D. (Patten) Sowders of Groton and the late James H. Sowders Sr. Katherine grew up in Montville and was a graduate of Montville High School class of 1974. She worked as a sales associate at several different retail stores in the area and was last working at Stop & Shop in Groton.

She was the loving wife of Thomas C. Hansen. They met in Montville while Tom was serving with the U.S. Navy and have been happily married for 32 years. After their marriage, they lived in Virginia Beach for several years before returning to Groton.

Katherine was a wonderful person with a sharp wit and a great sense of humor. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many, who was always there for you when you needed her. She had a wonderful way of making everyone feel loved and special, especially her grandchildren, and when you were with her, there was always lots of fun and laughter. She will be truly missed but will live on in our hearts.

In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by her daughter, Nichole Hansen-Taylor and husband, Samuel; son, Thomas C. Hansen II; three grandchildren, Devin Thomas Hansen, Savannah Lynn Hansen and Taylyn Jade Ashcraft-Hansen; brother, James H. Sowders Jr. and his girlfriend, Diana Bruce; two sisters, Judy Lynn Hershberger and husband, Mark, and Jennie May Rheaume and husband, Harry; three nieces and three nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Jennie May Matthews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at Starr Burying Ground on Lestertown Road, Groton.
