Leonora Sydnor Obituary
She was born July 19, 1981, in New London, the daughter of William E. Sydnor of New London, and the late Agueda (Taitague) Sydnor.
Nora dedicated her life to being a mother to her three young boys and a caregiver to her clients at her job as a member of support staff at United Cerebral Palsy in Quaker Hill. She loved her children unconditionally and would go to the ends of the world for them. Nora struggled to be a part of her clients programs until physically, she couldn't work. Nora will be remembered by her radiant smile and infectious laugh. She had the ability to be comforting yet straight forward at the same time.
Nora always set goals for herself and then accomplished them. She owned her first home in New London at the age of 22 and was very proud of earning her associate's degree in human services and general studies from Three Rivers College.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her three sons, Xavier Quito and Zacai and Cecil Johnson of New London; a brother, David B. Viera of Gales Ferry; and a sister, Akela "Kiki" Sydnor of New London; and her fiancé, Rashard Johnson.
Calling hours and a service will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London, followed by a reception at the New London Elks Lodge, 81 Washington St., New London, for family and close friends.

I knew Nora basically my whole life, from ST. Mary's Elementary School to New London High, and we always had a nice friendship. We had a lot of fun together and I have a lot of great memories from those years spent in her company. I remember her always being the first in our group to do everything. Like she always knew exactly what she wanted even at a young age and wasn't afraid to go after it. I always admired how she knew her power and lived fearlessly. I know I'm better for having known her. My condolences to her family. May God Bless You.

I didn't know Nora that well but she used to come into my former Job for breakfast a few times at the Restaurant on Thames Street in Groton which is a vocational training program for workers with disabilities. Plus they have jobcoaches there that help you with the tasks. But I do know her Sister Akela Sydnor because Akela used to be my jobcoach where I worked as a Waitstaff Person & Nora would come into Puffins for Breakfast just so she could visit her older Sis at work- And through out the times I saw Nora at Puffins, I noticed she and Akela look so much alike I can definitely tell they're sisters! However, I'm so sorry to hear about Nora's passing from gastric cancer. I send my sympathies and condolences to Akela Sydnor at this difficult time. I imagine it's a rough time for her and her relatives as it's very hard to lose a member of the family especially when they were so close & special to you. I just feel so sad for Akela that she lost her younger sister at such a young age because of this terminal cancer. I would Give you a Hug right now if I saw you Akela because this is just sad news & my heart aches for you that you experienced a loss of someone special in your life. R.I.P Nora.
