Lillian Hansen Obituary
Lil was born Nov. 30, 1919, to Lillian and Roy Lamb in Groton. She began her life in Noank on Haley Farm and graduated from Noank School followed by Robert E. Fitch High School in 1938.
After graduating from high school, she worked at Electric Boat in the Victory Yard, where she met Cliff "Bepop" Hansen. They were married at the First Congregational Church in New London in 1942.
Many knew of Lil's numerous affiliations and accomplishments including Fitch High School Alumni Association, Groton Teenage Club, Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department, Girl Scout Troop 24, Poquonnock Bridge Baptist Church, Shennecossett Beach and Yacht Clubs, Groton Senior Center, and Business and Professional Womens' Clubs. She always said "when I take on an organization, I really want to participate, not just so it looks good in my obituary." As a result, she hosted and planned many social events including variety shows, parties, and fundraisers. In addition, Lil was very active in Groton politics, and received several civic awards including the Paul Harris Fellow and the Jackie Nixon Citizen of the Year Award.
She enjoyed the last five years of her life at the Groton Regency Retirement Home, where she was unofficially known as the "social director." Lil's family will always be grateful for the tender loving care that she received.
Lil is survived by her daughter, Linda Johnson-Corteville and son-in-law, Douglas Corteville; four grandchildren and their spouses; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends and relatives.
A celebration of her life will begin at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 18, at Poquonnock Bridge Baptist Church and continue at the Schennecossett Yacht Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Poquonnock Bridge Baptist Church or directed to a charity of the donor's choice.

Sorry to hear of Lil's passing! She was a wonderful woman. I remember her from The Teenage Club in Groton. She always had a kind word and smile for everyone. She will be missed by many!

Mrs. Hansen was a beautiful women I had the pleasure of meeting her during my brief stay at Groton Regency her spirit and Linda's lunchtime singing will be missed by all the residents.
