Lorraine Waldron Obituary

Groton - Lorraine Virginia (Woodworth) Waldron, 88, of Jupiter Point Road, Groton, passed away on Jan. 10, 2013, at Apple Rehabilitation Center in Mystic.

She was born in Norwich, on Aug. 20, 1924, the daughter of Dewey H. and Antonia M. (Robitaille) Woodworth. Lorraine graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1942, valedictorian of her class. She graduated from Willimantic Teachers College in 1945, which was accelerated due to World War II. She later earned her master's degree.

Lorraine married Paul Waldron on Sept. 2, 1946, in Grace Episcopal Church in Yantic. They moved to Groton and together built their dream home and started a family. Paul died Oct. 15, 1995.

She taught fifth and sixth grade at Eastern Point Elementary School from the late 1960s until her retirement in 1990. Always an educator, she never missed an opportunity to pass along her knowledge.

Lorraine and Paul loved to travel. They spent many summers camping through New England and Canada. In their later years, they enjoyed traveling abroad.

Lorraine loved her family unconditionally. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by all.

Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Misty Stevens and her husband, Craig, of Norwich; son, Shawn Waldron and wife, Ginger, of Groton; grandchildren, Kyle and Joshua Stevens, Kelsey Waldron and her fiance, Kris Aldana, and Maggie Waldron. She also is survived by her great-grandson, Kayden Dale Waldron Aldana; and her brother, Dewey H. Woodworth and his wife, Juliana, of New Port Richey, Fla.

She was very active with All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in New London, where she had been a member of the congregation since 1949.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 19 Jay St., New London. Private interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Norwich. There are no visiting hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Forgotten Felines, Inc., PO Box 734, Clinton, CT 06413 or All Souls Unitarian Church, 19 Jay St., New London, CT 06320.

Dear Misty and Shawn,

I remember coming to your home in the fifties and sixties; my parents, the late George and Adriana Grassi Vail were friends with your parents and also members of All Soul's. We had some fun times together and your mom was a gracious and warm lady! Please accept my sympathies.
