Louise M. Kelo

Groton - Louise M. Kelo, 93, of Crown Knoll Court, formerly of Norwich, died on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

On Nov. 25, 1919, she was born in Norwich, the daughter of Samuel and Mary Abruzzes. Louise grew up in Norwich and was a graduate of the Norwich Free Academy. In 1956, she was married to Chistopher Kelo in Norwich. They enjoyed 29 years of marriage until his death in Aug. of 1985.

As a young woman she worked at several different stores in downtown Norwich, including Trachtenberg's clothing store. She was well known for having owned the Greenvilla Coffee Shop in Greeneville in the 1950's along with her sister Helene. After the birth of her daughter, she closed the shop to dedicate her time to her family, which she lovingly did for the rest of her life. Our mom was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who lived a long, active life and her memory will live in our hearts forever.

She is survived by her three daughters, Christin Johnson and husband, Larry, Jamie G. Kelo and June M. Brown, all from Groton; grandson, Christopher Brown; and her beloved "Mischa", her daughter's pet Maltese whom she loved dearly.

She was pre-deceased by her son, James R. Kelo; and two sisters, Helene Campbell and Mary Campbell.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, at St. Mary Church, 70 Central Ave., Norwich. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
