Malcolm Craig Obituary

Brandon, Fla. - Malcolm H. Craig, 92, of Brandon, Fla., passed away on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at a hospice facility in Tampa, Fla.

He was born in Canaan, N.H., the son of Charles C. Craig and Alice (Stevens) Craig. Malcolm grew up in Mystic, and retired from the Army in 1963 as a chief warrant officer after over 20 years of active duty, having served in combat in the U.S. Army in Europe between 1941 and 1945.

After leaving the Army, Mr. Craig worked as a rigger at the Mystic Seaport and then worked at the Underwater Sound Laboratory before retiring to Florida. He was a member of the American Legion in Riverview, Fla., a charter member (and past commander) of the Mystic chapter of the VFW and a member of the Tampa chapter of the Retired Officers Association.

He enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the woodworking club at Strawberry Ridge in Valrico, Fla.

Mr. Craig was predeceased by his first wife, Vivienne (Jacobus) Craig, and his second wife, Helen (Cavagnaro) Craig.

He is survived by sisters, Carolyn Hanley of Mystic, Ina Peterson of Noank, and Martha Deveau and her husband, Ambrose, of Ledyard and Zephyrhills, Fla. He is also survived by his stepsons, Donald and Richard Cavagnaro, both of Michigan. Mr. Craig also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews as well as several step-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
