Margaret Allen Obituary

East Lyme - Margaret "Midge" (Athridge) Allen died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, 27 days before her 95th birthday.

Midge was born on Aug. 31, 1918, in Medford, Mass., and was a longtime resident of Coventry and Bolton, before moving to White Oaks in Manchester and recently to Crescent Point in Niantic.

She was predeceased by her husband, E. Winfield Allen, who she met in Ogunquit, Maine. Midge was an avid, lifelong fan of UConn basketball and the Boston Red Sox. She graduated from Lowell State Teachers College in 1939, and was an elementary school teacher in Windsor and Wakefield, Mass. She had a great sense of humor, the gift-of-gab, loved scrabble and dominoes, and was loved by all who knew her.

She leaves her two sons, John Allen and his wife, Linda, of Duxbury, Mass., and Peter Allen of Pawley's Island, S.C.; faithful daughter-in-law, Peggy Kaplan of West Hartford; and her four grandchildren, Pamela Allen Liggett of Louisville, Ky., Elizabeth Allen of Niantic, Eli Allen of Kingston, Mass., and Abigail Allen of Sandwich, Mass. She adored her seven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Nathan, Luke, Will, Mia Elizabeth, Lukas, and Knox.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at The Thomas L. Neilan and Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Courant, 285 Broad St., Hartford, CT 06115.

Midge was an integral part of the Thursday night suppers we use to hold at the United Methodist Church of Bolton. She was always so cheerful, friendly and full of fun. We missed her over the last few years and send our prayers to her family.
