Margaret Kurrus Obituary

Mystic - Margaret "Peggy" Doris Kurrus, 82, of Groton, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Fairview in Groton.

She was born on June 6, 1930, in Bronx, N.Y., the daughter of the late John and Margaret Eastburn.

A devoted wife and mother, Peggy was the consummate homemaker and made it her personal profession. She took great joy in making her home a happy place. She pursued many hobbies and became accomplished in them all; cooking and baking, sewing, knitting, gardening, floral arranging, interior decorating, entertaining, ceramics, making pottery, embroidery, china painting, quilting, and more. While many enjoyed the fruits of Peggy's countless talents and generosity, she will be best remembered for her radiant smile.

Peggy was an active volunteer serving faithfully on the Altar Guild at St. James Episcopal Church for many years as well as being a nursery school teacher in earlier years. She also enjoyed her role as volunteer buyer for the Lawrence + Memorial Lobby Shoppe.

Her husband of 60 years and the "love of her life", John "Jack" Britton Kurrus predeceased her.

She was survived by her six children, Richard Kurrus and wife, Barbara, of Virginia Beach, Va., Susan Kurrus of Glastonbury, Scott Kurrus and wife, Kelly, of Greenfield, Ind., Kris Kurrus and wife, Brigitte, of Manassas, Va., Lisa Kurrus of Richfield, Minn., and Heidi Kurrus of Warwick, R.I.; 11 grandchildren, Jacky, Karl, Todd, Katie, Laurie, Susan, Gary, John, Carolyn, Scott, and Jordan; and four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Conner, Avalon, and Celeste.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl St., Mystic, with private joint burial for her and her husband immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Your parents were the loveliest couple I have had the honor to care for. A true joy, a lady and a gentleman in every sense of the word. You were blessed. They are missed. All my best to you in this time of loss.

I cared for your parents when they were with "us". A lovelier couple you could NOT find. A blessing to have been a part of their day and a joy to have known. Bless you all.

Jack and Peg Kurrus were wonderful as a couple, and great individuals that we're going to miss terribly. When Peggy's name would come up in a conversation Jack would just light up. They will forever stay in our memories as great friends, mentors and great people we were privileged to know and call friends.
