Marguerite Perry Obituary
She was born July 9, 1917, in New London, daughter of Michele and Vita Maria Grippo who resided at 64 Shaw St. She was a graduate of Chapman Technical High School, Joseph Lawrence School of Nursing and Simmons College. Jo had a wide range of nursing experience, including staff nurse at L+M Hospital in New London and Industrial Nurse at Electric Boat and U.S. Submarine Base in Groton. For fifty years she served as a school and public health nurse for Waterford Public Health Nursing Service Inc., retiring in 1995. After retiring, she continued to work in the Waterford Blood Pressure Clinic. Jo's nursing style was highly regarded for its unique combination of compassionate friendliness and impeccable professionalism.
Jo married Arthur "Bud" J. Perry Jr. on Jan. 15, 1948 at St. Joseph's Church in New London. Jo genuinely loved people. Her zest for life, bright smile and contagious laughter brought joy to all who knew her. She enjoyed dancing with Bud and traveling in their RV, family parties, bocce, fishing on the Niantic River, oil painting, and her grandchildren.
Jo served her community through the Waterford Republican Women's Club, L+M Hospital Alumni Association, Waterford VFW Women's Auxiliary, Friends of Harkness Park and Save the River- Save the Hills.
Besides her devoted husband, she is survived by her daughter, Susan Perry Luxton and her husband, Charles; and six grandsons and their wives, Joshua Schefers and Cashel O'Boyle, Benjamin Schefers and Rachel MacNeilly, Gabriel Luxton, Thaddeus Luxton, Christian Luxton and Anastasia Widiarish; and a daughter-in-law, Susan VanTassel Perry; one granddaughter, Emily Perry; and six great-grandchildren. She is survived by three sisters-in-law, Virginia Bliven, Jean Perry, Barbara Perry; a brother-in-law, Francis Perry; and a large extended family of nieces and nephews.
Jo was pre-deceased by her beloved son, Arthur J. Perry III "AJ"; and her eight siblings, Prudence, Mary, Philomena, Rose, Frances, William, Michael and John Grippo.
Jo's family gratefully acknowledges the ten years of compassionate care she and "Mr. P" received from their staff family at Kindred Crossings East of Waterford.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, St. Josephs Church, 17 Squire St., New London. Committal and interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to the Visiting Nurse Association of SE Connecticut, 403 Frontage Road, Waterford, CT 06385.
The Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave. New London is assisting the family.

Uncle Bud, we are so sorry for your loss. Aunt Jo was very special to me. I can still hear that unique. laugh of hers and have fond memories of the many times we shared together. God bless you.

So sorry to read of Jo's passing. She was always so jolly and friendly. A great nurse, compassionate and knowledgeable. I knew her in the Waterford School System.

Dear Family: Thank you for sharing "Jo" with us for so many years; as a child, she was my school nurse; in later years we worked together thru the VNASECT. She was a wonderful lady, fabulous nurse, so full of love and compassion. God bless you always in her name!

Aunt Jo was always so much fun to be with. Any time I think of her the memory makes my smile and chuckle bit. I know it's silly but every time I drive down Niantic River Rd I expect to see Uncle Bud and Aunt Jo taking a walk together....
