Michael Swift Obituary

Tampa, Fla. - Michael James Swift Sr., 58, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at the Woodside Hospice, Tampa, Fla.

He had been lovingly cared for by his niece, Wendy A. Sideri and her husband, Dave, at their residence for the past six months. Although he had resided in Florida the past 30 years, he was a New London native, born on Feb. 25, 1954, the youngest child of the late Peter T. and Helen (Morin) Swift. He graduated from St. Mary's School and New London High School.

The "Iceman" as he was fondly known by his family and friends, made frequent visits home which were eagerly anticipated by all. He was a "fun magnet" who lived life to the fullest. Heaven must be rocking with Mike, Tommy, Donnie, Peter and Peter D. reunited.

He is survived by his pride and joy, his son, Michael J. Swift, Jr. (Marci); granddaughter, Kendall G. Swift; and grandson, Collin M. Swift, all of Woodbridge, Va. Siblings, Joni (Swift) Discordia of New London, Dickie E. Swift of Groton and Nancy (Swift) Elswick of Brookshire, Texas; and goddaughter and niece, Lori J. Discordia of New London; nephews, Billy T. Discordia of Hartford and Steven C. Discordia and his wife, Deana, of Waterford. Great-nieces and nephews, Jaime L., Kelly M., and David M. Mercado, Dante T. and Ariana C. Antonelli and Jasmyn N. and Brenna K. Discordia and Lauryn P. Quintana. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces and nephews and friends. He also leaves his lifelong soul mate and love of his life, Tidge Copp.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Thomas P. Swift; and nephew, Peter M. Discordia.

RIP "Iceman" know that per your request, a parade in your honor will take place on Collins Ave., Miami following a ceremony to install a plaque to honor the famous tail.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London.

I was so sorry to hear of Michael's passing. Many years ago, I attended St. Mary's School and New London High School along with Michael. He was handsome and popular at both locations. His name took me back many years and memories ago. Again, so sorry to his family for the loss. Michael is in heaven. God bless. Paula Romano Barile
