Nancie Greenman Obituary

Salem - Nancie B. Greenman of Salem, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013.

Born Feb 2, 1917, in Norwich, the only child of Charles D. and Lizzie (Lathrop) Greenman. She was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy and Tufts University, where she earned both bachelor's and master's degrees in occupational therapy. She established the graduate school of OT at Buffalo University before returning to Tufts, retiring in 1979, as professor emerita OT dept. head.

Life-long interests in education, ornithology, nature, music, art and her family's New London whaling history prompted numerous local, national and international organization memberships, as well as her retirement career as a volunteer at Mystic Seaport.

She received numerous awards for her volunteer work, and traveled the globe in pursuit of her interests, never losing her love of teaching and sharing her vast experiences. She was a member of the DAR.

She is survived by her beloved friend, Joanne K. Newman, with whom she made her home in Salem. Ms. Greenman is also survived by her cousins; the extended Newman family; and close friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Mystic.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Dime Bank Foundation, Norwich, CT 06360.
