Nancy Rosen Obituary

Salem - Nancy T. Rosen, 58, of Salem, died in her sleep on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at her home.

Nancy was born in Yonkers, N.Y., on May 4, 1955. She attended Commerce High School in Yonkers and after moving to Connecticut, graduated from East Lyme High School in the class of 1973.

Nancy was a co-owner of New England Cycle Works in Groton. She and her late husband, Ed, built the business into a successful motorcycle dealership. With a sharp mind for bookkeeping and a degree in business management from Mitchell College, Nancy worked at the company for 19 years in the service and accounting departments. She was the owner and operator of NT Realty, a commercial property management company.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Erich Murphy; children, Scott Rosen of Salem and Stacey Rosen of Milford; grandson, Michael Savo Jr. of Milford; mother, Barbara Hutzler of Oakdale; and father, Joseph Veal. She adored her aunt Joan Butler and late uncle John Butler. Survivors also include cousins, John, Dennis, Jeff, and Greg Butler; uncles, Carl Hutzler and Richie Flemming; niece, Catherine Budds; and nephew, Cameron Budds.

As a girl, Nancy gained an appreciation of her Jewish heritage from her grandmother Ida Hutzler. She enjoyed snowmobiles, motorcycles, and roadside diners, and had fond memories of motor home trips to Alaska, Arizona, and Wyoming. An avid photographer, Nancy shot thousands of images across the Midwest and Alaska. She was highly skilled with a telephoto lens, and her rock-steady dexterity was reflected in the quality of her photography. She was an enthusiastic singer who took vocal lessons and gave karaoke performances in her home studio and at community halls. Nancy also took flying lessons and had plans to make a skydiving jump and go horseback riding.

Nancy also leaves behind her beloved cats, Rosie, Bear, Vinny, and Silver. She had a big heart for animals and went out of her way to care for stray cats.

A stylish collection of clothes, shoes, jewelry, purses, and accessories earned her the nickname "Fancy Nancy."

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, at Salem Green Cemetery, Route 85, Salem. Guests are invited to wear something green, Nancy's favorite color. There are no calling hours.

Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London, is assisting with the arrangements.
