Nellie Banks Obituary

Mystic - Nellie G. Banks, 92, of Mystic, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013.

She was born Dec. 8, 1920, in Mystic, the daughter of the late Henry and Nellie (Dorris) Geyer. She attended local schools and graduated from Stonington High School.

She was united in marriage to George Milton Banks in March of 1942, in Old Mystic. Mr. Banks survives her.

Mrs. Banks was employed by the former Sonoco Company in Mystic as a secretary for many years before retiring in 1971. She was a charter member of the VFW Post # 3263, Mystic Women's Auxiliary.

Besides her beloved husband of 71 years, she is survived by her son, George Michael Banks of Mystic; and a sister, Dorris Hayes of Hartsville, S.C.

Family and friends are asked to gather for a Graveside Service at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.

The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., historic downtown Mystic, is assisting the family.

I remember Nellie from "long ago" greenmanville ave tanning with a two piece bathing suit with Chick. Also, more recently I so enjoyed meeting her and chatting at the yard sales. Fond memories. Patty Gilmore Unwin

My late husband worked with Nellie at Sonoco Products for a number of years and I remember his admiration of her. He considered her a dear friend. Please accept my sympathy on the loss of this lovely lady. Mrs. Don Lumadue
