Oliver Edstrom

Egg Harbor, N.J. - Oliver Edstrom, 70, a longtime resident of Egg Harbor, N.J., died Thursday July 25, 2013, in Connecticut.

Born in Hartford, the son of Lucille (Perez) and the late Oliver B.P. Edstrom, he was a graduate of Hall High School "60" in West Hartford. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Hartford in biology and earned a second master's degree from the University of Rhode Island in marine affairs. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Ollie had a lifelong love of the environment. He started his career as a marine fisheries biologist for the State of CT. For many years, Ollie worked as an environmental biologist for his own company completing wetlands delineations, providing expertise in native landscaping and rebuilding marshland. You know someone really loves the marshes when they tell you they "love the smell of low tide." Furthermore, he was a darn good cook.

He is survived by his daughter, Gretchen L. Edstrom and her husband, David Burnside, of Waterford; his granddaughters, Emmy and Clara Franklin; his sister, Margaret Bouchard and her husband, Greg, of Avon; and his mother, Lucille P. Edstrom also of Avon. His niece and nephew, Collette and Michael Bouchard, also survive him.

He was predeceased by his nephew, Louis Bouchard.

A memorial celebration for close friends and family will held at 3:30 p.m. August 10, in Egg Harbor, New Jersey, at TW Howells. Private family burial will be at a later date.
