Peggy Moore Obituary

Waterford - Peggy Jean Moore, 72, of Waterford, passed away on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at the home she shared with her son, Glenn P. Kumpitsch.

She was born June 29, 1941, in New London, to Luella (Gifford) Moore and the late Joseph Moore. Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Raymond L. McHatton in March 2010.

Peggy worked in various companies over the years including: American Thermos, First National Grocery Store, Thames Valley Steel and Terry-Turbine, all in Connecticut. When she was living in Florida, Peggy had jobs at: Ellis & Leibowitz Management, Pappalardo Construction, Cresthaven East and Encore Senior Living. The two jobs she most enjoyed were that of a private investigator and as a computer programmer.

In the spring of 1964, Peggy helped organize the Women's Fast-Pitch Softball League of Southeastern, Connecticut; she then played in the league for 13 years. She was quite possibly the first female (National) Little League Umpire, and a proud member of the Board of Directors for both the East Lyme Little League Baseball and East Lyme Pee Wee Football organizations.

Besides her family, her greatest love was time spent with "Mac", her beloved husband, as a passenger on their Harleys! Together, "Cubbear" and "Mac" logged well over 220,000 miles, riding throughout the USA, Canada and Mexico, on their ‘98 Sporty, ‘07 Softail or ‘09 TriGlide. They were members of the Palm Beach Chapter in Florida, the Columbia Chapter in Connecticut, and HOG (Harley Owner's Group).

Besides her mother, Luella, of Colchester, Peggy is survived by three sons, Wayne J. Kumpitsch of Danville, Va., John D. Kumpitsch of Lumpoc, Calif., and Glenn P. Kumpitsch of Waterford. In addition, she is survived by two stepsons and their spouses, Raymond L. (Gina) McHatton of Thomson, Ga. and Russell (Rene) McHatton of Grovetown, Ga. She is survived by three granddaughters and two grandsons. Peggy is survived by all of her five sisters and one brother, Janet (Jerry) Ireland of Windemere, Fla., Deanna (Gerard - deceased) St. Jean of Salem, Karen (Virg) Sperry of La Fayette, Ga., Kathleen Nixie of College Park, Texas, Deborah (Mitch) White of Westbrook, and Jeffrey (Cindy) Moore of Salem. In addition to her siblings, Peggy leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends. She was very close to her niece, Laurie, with whom she shared the love of riding and together attended many Harley Rallys.

The family is so grateful to the care and compassion that Peggy received through Center for Hospice Care, Southeastern Connecticut, during the last few months of her life. Donations may be made in her name to this wonderful organization at 227 Dunham Street, Norwich, CT 06360 or to Gardner Lake Fire House, Salem, CT 06420.

Peggy passed away with no regrets, as she was able to travel and to experience all the things she dreamed of.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at the Belmont/Sabrowski Funeral Home, 144 S. Main St., Colchester. Burial will follow at the Salem Green Cemetery. Calling hours will be held one hour prior to her service.

RIP Cub bear ride on in heaven with Mac!! I was on the Board at PB HOG and got to meet them both and ride with them. I was always envious of all their riding...but could never understand how they did it on a Sporty...as I owned one myself!

Just learned of Peggy's passing. To her family, many condolences, especially to her children, who I never got to meet. I met Peggy and Mac through the Palm Beach HOG Chapter, when I was just learning to ride. She was always smiling, kind and encouraging, as was Mac, and not much taller than me either ! Cubbear you will be very missed here in Florida, and though out the lives that you and Mac touched, as well as your families. You were one of a kind !
