Robert Fortune Obituary
He was born May 13, 1924, the son of Garrett Reese "Gary" Fortune and Charlotte (Crocker) Fortune. Robert attended Cohanzie School and graduated from Chapman Technical High School in New London, then joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II. In 1952, he began his 30 year civil service career at the Naval Underwater Sound Lab in New London.
He married Evangeline Beck on May 31, 1947, at St. Joseph Church in New London. She passed away July 21, 2013.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London, followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Jefferson Ave., New London.
