Robert E. Grant

Waterford - Robert E. Grant, 85, of Quaker Hill, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, with his children at his side at Greentree Manor, in Waterford.

Bob was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Scully, in 2011, they were reunited on her birthday.

Bob led an active life with varied experiences. As a self-taught musician, Bob played guitar and banjo, and at one time led the Rhythm Kings "Music for All Occasions," performing at colleges, weddings, and dances. Stock car experiences were short lived as the car he and his friends raced at the Waterford Speed Bowl was wrecked quickly. Other endeavors were not short-lived. Bob was a lifetime member of the Quaker Hill Fire Company, and a Hall of Fame member of the Quaker Hill Bowling League, serving as secretary for 50 years.

Bob coached several Waterford youth baseball and basketball teams and was an avid collector of sports memorabilia (especially New York Yankees), music, movies, and other nostalgic items.

Bob's greatest contribution was as a dedicated husband, father, and papa. Married for 56 years, he was caring and thoughtful. He was a dedicated father always finding time to spend with his children and later caring for his grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Susan Dahm, of East Lyme; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Barbara Grant of Norwich; and his grandchildren, Sarah and William Dahm, and Julia and Connor Grant.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the Thomas L. Neilan and Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Quaker Hill Fire Department, or the Connecticut Humane Society.
