Robert Perry Obituary

East Lyme - Robert D. Perry Sr., HMCS(SS), USN (ret.), 86, of 25 Carriage Hill Drive, Niantic, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.

He was born in Bellevue, Ky., on June 6, 1926, the son of Dolph and Gladys (Keefer) Perry.

Robert married Margaret Scanlon on Nov. 23, 1947, in Groton, and she survives. They lived a beautiful life together for 65 years.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Feb. 14, 1944, and retired on March 1, 1977. He was a veteran of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

He was a life member of the Fleet Reserve Branch 20, Sub Vets, Veterans of Foreign War Post 189, American Legion Post 128, Retired Armed Forces Association Chapter 1, and a member of the International Petty Officers Association.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert D. Perry Jr. and his wife, Dorcas, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Patrick M. Perry and his wife, Susan, of Niantic; a sister, Dolys Gelke of Indianapolis, Ind.; as well as his four grandchildren, Joshua, Jennifer, and Jeffrey and Erin.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. Interment with military honors will be in Smith Lake Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday.
