Robin Fleming Obituary

Robin Fleming

New London - Robin Jean Fleming, 59, coordinator of Member Services, Artreach and assistant director of the Second Step Players, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

She was born on Oct. 3, 1953, in Beaver Falls, Pa., the daughter of the late Robert and Jean (Young) Fleming. Besides her unwavering commitment to Artreach and the Second Step Players, Robin created and initiated a creative writing group through Artreach. She participated in a mindfulness based stress reduction program at the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies. She served on several committees, including the Community Education Committee, the Multicultural Committee, and an Interfaith Spirituality Committee.

Robin touched many people's hearts through her work with Contact, Reliance House, the Martin House, and Artreach. Besides her endless work with Artreach, her love and passion for the theater arts was always her true avocation. Robin was a true thespian bringing her willingness to learn the craft, and her desire to teach others what she had learned to all who worked with her on the stage. She worked with several theater companies most notably, Second Step Players (which held a special place in her heart), The Chelsea Players, Intentional Theater, Stage Door Theater Co., Spirit of Broadway, and most recently she attented a three week seminar on the art of screenwriting. Her desire to procure her craft as an artist was an endless journey to which she so enthusiastically aspired.

Robin's specialty was stage managing, a position requiring incredible organizational skills and the ability to communicate with anyone at any time. That was truly her gift. She was an accomplished writer, namely poetry, short stories, plays, and her new found love of screenwriting. Her literary talents were not just confined only to herself. Robin utilized these talents as a teacher and mentor to many of the students she had the pleasure of teaching over the years. She loved all of the performing arts, photography, jewelry and glass making, gardening, baking, and she loved her weekly nature walks. But it was Robin's love for her children and her grandchildren that truly kept a smile on her face every waking moment of her life!

She is survived by her children, Christine, Elizabeth, Alan, Victoria, and Joshua; four grandchildren, Alex, Hope, Noah, and Haley; six nieces and nephews, Danielle, Danny, Timmy, Jessie, Jeffery, and Andy; two siblings, Jessie and Maryann; and several aunts and uncles.

She was predeceased by her son, David and her son-in-law, Sean.

A celebration of her life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Spirit of Broadway, 24 Chestnut St., Norwich.

Robin was my friend & co-worker. She was a good person, always there for you,had a handle on everything. And she was so kind, with her warm smile and big heart. She would stay in contact with me even on my days off, calling to let me know who signed up for an event, who cancelled, who's phone number changed or who moved, and then we'd talk about upcoming events and next month's calendar. It just won't be the same without her.
I miss her very much. My condolences to her family.
love, Dianne Strycharz
